The project of the innovative Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey was set up during the 1980s but only after a long and complex development process, which lasted over twenty years, did it begin its distribution to the operational departments of the United States armed forces. The Osprey is a tiltrotor equipped with two tilting engines with large three-blade propellers that make it capable of landing and taking off vertically like a helicopter and having flight and transfer performance similar to that of a conventional propeller plane. Version A is the initial version, used for operational tests, aimed at improving the mechanical, engine and electronic components subsequently used in series production. The Osprey took part in its first operational missions in an Iraq war scenario in 2008.
